FAQ
Short answers to common questions about using a calculator.
Why does my result differ from another calculator?
Each calculator uses its own rules, and a company can set different starting values. Check that the inputs match, such as the rate, the term and the fees. Results are estimates. See What the disclaimer means.
Does a calculator give financial advice?
No. A calculator shows estimates for learning. It does not recommend an action or promise a result. For your own decisions, talk to a qualified professional.
How are results rounded?
Results show amounts in the calculator's currency format. Calculators that list payments by period round each amount to cents. The detail table says so when it applies.
Why can't I run the calculation?
The button is off while a calculation runs. Wait for the results, then try again. If a field shows an error, fix it first.
Why does it say "Results out of date"?
You changed an entry after the last calculation. Select Calculate to refresh the results.
Why does it say the calculator isn't available?
The company that shows the calculator may have turned it off, or it may not allow it on this page. Contact that company.
Can I save my calculation?
No. A calculator does not store your entries, and it has no save feature. See Privacy basics.
Can I change the language?
Yes, on a hosted page, which has a language menu. A calculator on a company's own site uses the language that company chose. See Change the language.
Is a calculator accessible?
Calculators aim to conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. See the Accessibility statement.
