Accessibility statement
Aztec-Calcs calculators aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. This level also covers the WCAG 2.0 AA baseline that Section 508 refers to.
How we check
- Automated scans. A scan with axe-core checks every calculator, hosted and embedded, in every screen state. Any failure of a WCAG A or AA rule blocks a release.
- Manual checks. Before each production release, a tester completes each changed calculator with a screen reader and a keyboard. The pairs are NVDA with Chrome, VoiceOver with Safari on macOS, and VoiceOver with Safari on iOS. The tester also checks 400% zoom, text spacing changes and Windows high contrast mode.
What you can expect
- You can reach every control with a keyboard and see where focus is.
- Every field has a label, and the error message points to the field.
- A screen reader announces the main figure when a result appears.
- A chart has a text description. The detail table gives the same figures as text.
- Touch targets are at least 44 pixels.
Known exceptions
- No approved exceptions are on record at the time of writing.
- Open gap: an embedded calculator reflows down to a 360 pixel container width. WCAG 2.2 Reflow (1.4.10) refers to 320 pixels. We have not yet settled how to handle this gap. We verify a hosted page at a 320 pixel viewport, including 400% zoom.
A company that embeds a calculator controls the rest of its page. This statement covers the calculator only.
